





Writerly Books is currently accepting submissions on a rolling basis. Our typical response time is 4–8 weeks. We treat every manuscript with respect and care; even in the case of a rejection, you will always hear back from us. Please review our requirements for each genre below and consult our staff profiles to decide whom to send your work.
FICTION
Writerly Books currently accepts works of fiction in the genres below:
- Literary fiction with a strong focus on immigrants’ life; equality; social commentary; philosophical takes on our current events.
- Contemporary fiction with a focus on how young people are dealing with the changes in the world.
- Romance with a realistic lense.
- Fantasy with glamorous and superb world-building. Make it fresh. Make it live in the mind of our readers long after they put the book down. Make it unforgettable and unhinge.
We are NOT accepting:
- Graphic novels
- Young adult novels
- Rom-com
NON-FICTION
For non-fiction, we are looking for:
- Modern takes on current events
- Essays and dissertation on literary works, themes, and historical values
- Biography with a creative flair.
- Memoirs
- Cook books (especially those that claim they are generational recipes!)
We are NOT accepting:
- Self-help books
- How-to books
- Religious proposals
HOW TO SUBMIT
For fiction:
Please send the first 15 pages of your manuscript, a synopsis, and a query letter to [email protected] with the format: ATTN: Thanh Dinh/[your name]/[your book’s genre]/[title]. In the query letter, please include:
- Why you are the right person to write the book
- What makes you choose Writerly Books
- Comp titles and how you plan to position yourself against them (your unique selling point)
- Optional but always a plus: how much do you love cats?
For non-fiction:
Please send the first chapter of your book and the proposal to [email protected] with the format: ATTN: Phuong Dinh/[your name]/[your book’s genre]/[title]. In your email, please include:
- A compelling summary
- An author bio highlighting your expertise in the subject
- A detailed chapter outline
- A competitive title analysis
- A robust marketing plan
- Optional: How many cats are too many?
But as the saying goes, expect the unexpected! At the core of it all, what we are looking for is a plot that would wow us at the first page and a prose style that stays honest to the writer’s opinion. Our motto stays the same in all the works that we do: We rise, always. Show us what you’ve got. Surprise us. We never know what chocolate we will get, right?
